Hello Normans,

I need a little bit of advice and hope you can point me in the right direction. I am looking for some headphones to use for recording my guitar but I’m not sure which ones to buy. Do they need to be ‘closed back?’ If so, can you tell me a bit more about what this means? I have never tried to record my music before and want to get it right. Hope you can help me.
My budget is around £60.
Thanks
Andrew

Dear Andrew,

Thank you for your email. This is something we get asked quite a lot. There is so much choice out there it can sometimes get confusing. You are correct in thinking you will need the closed back style headphones. These are best for recording as they don’t allow sound and air to get in and out of the ear cup. This prevents the sound being picked up by the microphone.

At this price range there are two that I would recommend, one at a slightly higher price and slightly lower:

Audio Technica ATH-M40 - £72.60: These offer exceptional quality and clarity of sound. They also have earpieces that rotate 180 degrees for one ear monitoring. http://www.normans.co.uk/p-2211-audio-technica-ath-m40-studio-headphones.aspx

Shure SRH2 40A - £44.40: These are professional quality headphones at an affordable price. They also look great and are very comfortable. http://www.normans.co.uk/p-3865-shure-srh240a-headphones.aspx

I hoped this has aided your search. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards
Anna Martin
