Following hot on the heels of a successful upgrade to their YDP digital piano series, Yamaha continued the trend and improved their ever popular PSR-E range with the new PSR-E243 and PSR-E343.
Given how popular both the 233 and 333 have been and still are, what's to improve?
First off is a brand new, piano sized keyboard. They're still only 61 notes but now they're full sized keys, not the slightly smaller style they used to be. This makes playing much easier, inparticular the transition between the keyboard and a real piano.

Another big improvement is the new sound samples, including a completely new Grand Piano sample. This might seem like a small improvement but the increase in realism is huge.
New software also allows both keyboards to interact with Apple iOS devices as demonstrated in the video below. This gives the user a huge amount of extra controls and variations.
The PSR-E343 also features a new 'Melody Suppressor' which mutes the melody line of the music you can input from your phone or .MP3 player, allowing you to take the lead and play it like it should have sounded!
If that wasn't enough, the keyboards also retain everything that made them popular in the first place - the Ultra Wide Stereo DSP function, loads of backing tracks and styles and of course their low weight and high portability.
Apart from the new melody suppressor, the main difference between them is the touch sensitive keys, only available on the PSR-E343. These add extra realism and allow the player to play delicate lullabys or grand finales in equal measure.
Both great products for the young beginner or musically curious, they're worth seriously considering against everything else. On paper the PSR-E343 is the better keyboard, but it is represented in the price.
