Hi,
My daughter is learning the Clarinet and the instrument we purchased didn't come with a ligature. However, I have an old Alto Saxophone I no longer play. Can I use the ligature from that?

Hi Caroline,
Thanks for your email.
It's best to use the specific ligature for the specific instrument. Many won't fit other instruments anyway, which makes it easier.
The ligature is important as it holds the reed in place. The reeds vibrations are what produces the sound of the instrument. If the ligature is improperly sized or fixed, this will affect the reeds ability to vibrate and obviously the sound.
Most ligatures are metal, but some more advanced players use fabric or leather ligatures as they can allow the reed to vibrate more freely and can improve the tone.
You can see our full range of Ligatures and mouthpiece caps here.
