Boss have been making guitar pedals and other effects machines since 1974 with the introduction of the B100 "The Boss". Although this technically wasn't a Boss product (the company hadn't yet been formed) it was extremely popular with acoustic guitarists who relished the ability to 'go electric' with the handy belt clip and pickups that were included. It also came in a wooden case with a leather trim - too cool!

The original - the B100 "The Boss"

Boss was created as a company as a division of Roland musical instruments. The first official Boss release was the CE-1 Chorus Ensemble Pedal in 1976, a pedal which has been attributed with providing the signature sound of guitarist Andy Summers who played with The Police.

"Don't Stand So Close To Me"  - A Police song which relied heavily on the Boss Chorus pedal

From there Boss has moved quickly from strength to strength and now has a huge catalogue of different effects pedals, producing sounds wide across the spectrum from phasing, chorus, distortion, delay and tremolo effects right up to loop stations and in the last few years as far out as drum machines.
