Hi,

I am new to the Sax and have recently aquired a Tenor Sax. I have been advised to change the mouthpiece and the Yamaha 4C has been recomended. Can you tell me the difference between the Yamaha lay mouthpiece and the Yamaha MPTS 4C mouthpiece please?

Colin

Hi Colin,

The lay is the part of the mouthpiece where the reed sits and vibrates - it's also known as the 'facing curve'.

The 'Lay' Series have a slightly different curve from what I can gather so would produce a slightly different tone. Knowing what Lay to have would come from a bit of trial and error and how advanced a player you are.

The MPTS 4C is what's supplied as standard with their Tenor saxophones and from experience these are good 'all rounder' mouthpieces. Most beginners start with these and then move up to Selmer mouthpieces which are more expensive.

I hope this helps - if you have any other questions do Contact Us
