Most digital pianos come in a variety of colours to suit your decor. Commonly these are Rosewood, Mahogany, Cherry and Black, although you do also see Walnut and some other finishes. So is there any difference?

The answer is not really - apart from the colour of course!

Matte Finishes are easier to look after - they just need dusting and the occasional polish. They're also much more resistant to bumps and knocks.

The Polished Ebony finish can look stunning, but it does come at a price - they're normally a few hundred pounds more expensive, because of the materials used; and they'll also need more care in terms of polishing and dusting as they will show fingerprints and dust much more easily. They'll also scratch much more easily and visibly. Visually and cosmetically, however, they do look fantastic.

With a few basic care tips, whichever finish you choose will keep for years -

• Keep the piano out of direct sunlight

• Keep the piano at least a few inches away from a radiator/heat sources

• Don’t leave the piano turned on if you’re not playing it

• Don’t place objects on the top without protection - vases, picture frames, etc

• Always use a soft cloth when wiping it over. Dampen slightly for stubborn stains.
