Hi,
I want to buy a nice condenser mic for my home studio - used for producing professional / broadcast quality recordings. I use a laptop and USB interface with phantom power.
I will be recording all sorts of things with it - sung vocals, sound effects / foley effects and musical instruments.
What can you recommend for under £100. I deliver recordings for professional projects so it needs to be good.
I look froward to hearing your advice.
Thanks,
James

Hi James,
Would you be looking for a microphone that connects direct to the computer via USB or one that connects into your audio interface?
If you were looking for something to connect to your audio interface I would recommend the Audio Technica AT2020. This is a great microphone that has a great dynamic range that would suit singing, effects and instrument recording. This is a very popular microphone that is ideal for project/home-studio applications. Id say this would be the perfect microphone for under £100.
However if you were connecting directly by USB I would recommend the Samson Multi-Pattern USB Condenser. I personally have used this microphone quite a lot and I am very happy with the results I have got from it. It is great for vocal recordings as well as instrumental recordings. It has switchable Cardioid, Omni, and Figure-8 Pickup Patterns as well as a Dual Large 19mm Diaphragm Elements that pick up a clear and detailed tone leaving you with a very crisp recording.
