FRAUD COVER
Having spoken to streamline and Sage, the importance lies on the confirmation of the billing address, CV2, post code and 3D being matched.
Should a chargeback incident occur, the liability can be quickly turned on to the merchant therefore be careful.
IF the DELIVERY address is different to the BILLING address there is a chance we are not covered, as the merchant bank (streamline) does not have the particular delivery address matching against the billing address and the customer.
As informed by Laura from Streamline, the cover has NOTHING to do with the type of card used. It is merely the address checks, CV2 and 3D secure that we all need to be vigilant about.
STREAMLINE
Streamline has informed us that should a card pass through 3D secure and has been authenticated then the card is covered by the scheme. They also explained how we should get an authentication message.
For example; verified by Visa / Barclaycard and MasterCard whereby the customer has to input their password. However, not all cards have this.
We have implemented a setting on SagePay which enables any transaction below £249.99 to go through even if the card does not have the verification facilitated on there.
Any transaction above £249.99 HAS to go through the 3D secure.
Any telephone orders/payments do not have the 3D secure enabled so be very careful, as we will be LIABLE.
SAGEPAY
SagePay has the traffic light shield key which we use for information purposes on transactions.
GREEN SHIELD – on the 3D means that it HAS been authenticated. (we do not receive a message as such, but if you hover over the shield, it will say OK, meaning it has passed and we are covered by the scheme)
AMBER SHIELD – on the 3D can mean it has only been attempted, or is incomplete, in this situation we as the merchant are LIABLE should the transaction come as fraudulent.
RED SHIELD – on the 3D means NOT AUTHORISED meaning we should NOT dispatch the goods. If this is missed and the goods are dispatched we are LIABLE should a chargeback arise.
ALL (personal and corporate) cards within the EU that HAVE passed the 3D secure successfully, meaning a password as been inputted and therefore authenticated BUT it was a fraudulent transaction as a merchant we are NOT LIABLE and are covered by STREAMLINE as our merchant bank.
Any personal cards OUTSIDE of the EU (including American cards), that HAVE passed the 3D secure successfully, but were fraudulent; again we are NOT LIABLE and covered.
However, any CORPORATE/BUSINESS cards OUTSIDE of the (including American cards) that HAVE passed the 3D secure successfully we ARE NOT covered for and therefore ARE LIABLE should it appear as FRAUD.
HOW TO LOOK FOR CARDS ON SAGEPAY
Looking for the different cards at first sight is not easy.
If a transaction looks suspicious for example, if all the columns have the GREEN SHIELD apart from the T3M column, or it is of a high value then click on the transaction. On the left hand side, click on authorisation details and it will tell you what type of card it is. For example, Corporate credit card - Barclays Bank, Debit Card – HSBC and the country, eg GB.
Attached is a copy of an invoice to show you the charges from a month. (If you wanted to know)
Please also see attached TYPES OF CARD AND LIABILITY. Please take a look through. Sorry it's a bit blurry!
Hopefully this clears things up! Any other questions, just shout!
