Since the Analogue/Digital TV Switchover, things have changed slightly for the Wireless Microphone.

Old channels and frequencies previously used for wireless transmission and TV signals have been freed up - they're now used by mobile companies for 4G content. While TV signals have been moved to a much higher frequency, wireless microphones have only been moved slightly.

Old channels 61-69 and 30-37 are now unavailable, so any new purchases will use Channel 70 or Channel 38 as standard.

Channel 69 is perhaps the most affected, as many older wireless systems operated in this frequency. Any equipment which still uses this frequency cannot legally be used.

So what's the difference?

Channel 70 operates between 863-865MHz. This is freely available to use without a license, but legally no more than 4 of these units can be used in a venue at once.

Channel 38 operates between 606-614MHz. This is best used in venues which require more than 4 wireless systems at any one time, and requires an annual license to be used legally.

As standard at Normans our wireless units will be Channel 70 unless expressly stated otherwise. If you think you might require Channel 38 devices, please get in touch with our Sales Team.
