Hi,

I am looking to purchase an electronic drum kit. I am a complete beginner although I had a couple of lessons a few years ago. I was thinking about an Alesis DM6 or what about an Axus AXK3 - how do they compare?

Any advice welcomed

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your e-mail.

Both the Alesis DM6 and AXUS AXK3 are great kits! They both have the realistic touch response pads that have great bounce back and features such as rim click and rimshot capability.

The real competition between them comes down the the drum modules. You are able to record your beats through the MIDI and USB ports as well as play along to your iPod. Whilst they both have fantastic effects built in, the AXK3 offers that little bit more. It has many more features when coming to the built in effects, such as offering the ability to create your own drum kit. This could be adding louder cymbals to your custom rock kit or possibly electro effects allowing for a more funky sound to play around with.

In regards to appearance they both look great and both are complete with a lightweight frame. The DM6 has a more simple design with featuring floating toms. The AXK3 is more robust and has a large supported frame which is perfect for heavy handed drumming.

I hope this helps. If you have any other queries then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks.

Kind regards
