Hi Team,
I am thinking of buying the Alesis M1 Active 320 USB Pro-grade Speakers, can I just plug iPods into the speakers and play the music?
Thanks
Lee

Hi Lee,
Many thanks for your message.
These speakers feature, amongst other inputs, a 1/8" stereo jack input. The 1/8" stereo jack input is the same input that iPods and other MP3 players use for plugging in headphones. An iPod can indeed be plugged straight into the back of the master speaker using this input.
The Alesis M1 active 320 speakers are 'active' speakers. This means that they do not need to be powered by an amplifier in order to work - they are basically an amplifier and speakers in one.
Although they can effectively be used as a sound card, (i.e. you can plug instruments etc. into them and then record to your computer via the USB connection, as you would with a sound card or audio interface), the fact they are active speakers means that your computer is not required to be able to play instruments and hear the sound through the speakers.
When the speakers are not connected to a computer, you can still plug any compatible instrument/mixer/CD player/etc. into the back, and hear the sound.
Please note, that with an iPod/iPhone you cannot use the standard iPod/iPhone plugs, in other words the type of connection iPods use for charging and for docking. You would have to use the 1/8" lead that most standard MP3 players use. These leads are very common, and can be picked up very cheaply if you don't have one already. They are commonly included free with items such as MP3 players, docks, and mobile phones.
I hope this has answered your question fully. If you would like any more advice, or would like to place an order, feel free to give me a call on 01283 535 333.
Thanks!
