Thanks for your email.

The pads are made of neoprene, a kind of synthetic rubber, and they simply mute the sound of the drums you are hitting. Just place the pads on top of the drumheads. When you play the kit, you don't actually hear the drums; you hear the sound of the drumsticks hitting the neoprene pads. This sound is significantly quieter than playing the kit as normal.

Because of the 'bouncy' nature of the rubber they are made from, they can also serve to help you practice different rebound strokes and techniques.
