Afternoon All,

Just wanted to let you all know about an event I'm working on with Music for Youth, as I may need some volunteers!

Music for Youth is a national music education charity that provides free access to performance and audience opportunities for young musicians across the UK through its annual season of festivals and concerts. Each year they hold a National Festival in Birmingham which showcases dynamic performances by young musicians. Featuring jazz, orchestral, rock, folk and world, urban, wind and brass, pop, choral and chamber music. Schools / Music Hub ensembles compete in Regional Festivals to win a place at the national Finals. http://www.mfy.org.uk/coreseason/national

This year is the 10th Anniversary of them being in Birmingham (they used to be in London when I was a boy!) and they are trying to make it even bigger and more of a festival style event than usual.

I have arranged for us to have an area within the foyer of the symphony hall to set up a Normans 'Playzone' (working title, any other ideas welcome!) for children to try out a range of instruments. The idea being to have a lot of fun, engaging and unusual instruments that they may not have seen/tried before. This is totally opposite to the stands we usually do but I thought it worth a shot and am hoping for some good exposure for brand Normans. There are predicted to be about 10,000 children involved across the festival.

So where do you fit in?

The event runs from 8th - 12th July and obviously trying to man this just with our sales team would likely mean we don't sell much that week! So I thought it might be a nice opportunity to involve others who don't normally get the chance to get out of the office during work hours? I envisage taking 3-4 people each day so hopefully there would be at least one day out available for anyone who wants to get involved. We would obviously show you what to do and aren't expecting you to demonstrate instruments, just help encourage some children to have a go and prevent things getting broken / stolen!

If you'd like to be considered for involvement then please add a comment to this ticket. Once I know who's interested I can start making some firmer plans.

Should be fun!

Andy
