Top 5 soprano ukuleles for beginners

If you are reading this article, you have probably already decided that you’d like to play the ukulele – Good choice!

Now you have to decide which one to buy…

So before you choose which one you want, consider your budget. Our range of ukuleles vary from under £15 to just under £200.

If you are complete beginner, I would recommend spending between £15 and £30. If you want to play an electric one – up to about £50.

Here is a list of our top 5:

1. Mahalo 2511 Soprano

These ukuleles are the cheapest in our top 5 list, but don’t be fooled by their price. They are great starter instruments (particularly for children with the fantastic choice of colours). These great starter ukes now have geared machine heads too. Not the best quality materials have been used to build them, but for a beginner wanting to learn how to play, they are perfect.
They are available in Black, Dark Blue, Green, Light Blue, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, White and Yellow.

2. Rocket US10R Soprano
This ukulele is (in our opinion) the best buy on this list. Value for money is fantastic, and it’s simple, classy design makes it look much more expensive than it is. It is one of the most popular ukuleles on the market, and there is a reason for that: You cannot get a better ukulele for your money. It must be recognised that this is still a budget ukulele, but if you wanted to – you can always change the strings to make it even better.

They are available in Black, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Natural, Purple and Red.

3. Bugs Gear Lorenzo Soprano
These ukuleles offer something a little bit different – an offset sound hole and cut-away body, making them look very striking. Again, these ukuleles come with geared machine heads and a case, so you can take them with you wherever you go. Still under £20, the materials used are basic. The colours however, are fantastic!
These are available in Black, Blue, Green, Honeyburst, Natural, Pink, Purple, Red, White and Yellow.

4. Mahalo 2515 Soprano

Mahalo have concentrated more on the playing quality of this model. It is finished in mahogany to an extremely high standard, with accurate intonation. Still reasonably priced, this is the ukulele highly recommended by teachers across the UK. It also comes complete with a much more robust gigbag style case to protect your ukulele and carry your accessories.

5. Makala MK-S Traditional Soprano
This ukulele is a great one to buy if you are a seasoned musician. It still won’t break the bank, but will take you a lot further on your musical journey than others on this list. It has a solid build quality and excellent sound. We’d expect nothing less of the Makala brand.
